Brother Tony Magee
Greetings! My name is Brother Tony Magee. It is my honor and privilege to be The Servant Leader for the Mighty Mu Sigma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
Our Chapter was chartered on September 23, 1977, by 14 Honorable Black Men, affectionately known as The Audacious 14. The significance of our Chapter is based upon the FOCUSED 5, which highlight key principles for adding value to our dear Mu Sigma Lambda – in compliance with National Programs and other planned initiatives.
Briefly, the FOCUSED 5 are:
- FAMILY (Brotherhood) – MSL is a Family and WE are, collectively, our Brother’s keeper.
- FAITH – As Brothers, we must believe, with all our hearts, in The Creator, our Founders, our Brotherhood, our People, our Leaders and the righteous Victory of our struggle.
- FINANCES – Adequate financial planning is key to successful chapter programming.
- FUTURE – The chapter’s future forecast is bright, shiny and spotless!!!
- FUN – Why can’t we have fun while taking care of the business of Alpha?
We, the Brothers of Mu Sigma Lambda with God’s guidance and the spirit of fellowship, proclaim our intent to manifest in our actions, our desire to promote the forward progress of every brother – in the areas of health, financial wellness and career progression. To provide every brother all the direction, support and enthusiasm he needs to succeed in his quest for excellence. Casually, we enjoy fellowship after meetings and gatherings; signature events like “LA Derby Day”, and “Brotherhood, Burgers & Brews”. The first priority will always be our beloved BROTHERHOOD.
We are proud sponsors of our National Programs such as A Voteless People is a Hopeless People; Go to High School, Go to College; Brother’s Keeper, and Project Alpha and many monthly local Chapter Community Service Programs within the Baldwin Hills / Culver City areas of West Los Angeles. In addition, we proudly facilitate our signature program Alpha Juniors Leadership Academy for high school aged young men. Over the course of several months, these young men are transformed – engaging in a variety of topics ranging from “Becoming an Admired Man” to “Justification for a Higher Education”.
Each year, we award thousands of dollars in Scholarships to locally deserving high school seniors headed to their respective four-year Colleges and Universities.
We support two of our neighboring Undergraduate Chapters: UCLA (Golden Gamma Xi) and Pepperdine University (Upsilon Chi). Mentoring our college brothers early and often – gives them a competitive advantage to succeed academically and have access to a wide-ranging network of professionals to help guide their career pursuits.
Mu Sigma Lambda Chapter was established in Baldwin Hills / Culver City, California in 1977. We are famously known as “The Baldwin Hills Alphas” – serving a community overlooking the Los Angeles Basin and the lower plain immediately to the north. Baldwin Hills is bordered on the southeast by Los Angeles’ Leimert Park neighborhood, on the south by View Park – Windsor Hills, on the west by Culver City, on the north by the Los Angeles Mid-City district, and the east by the Crenshaw district.
